『Pope Francis Declares Lucifer As God』に関する反証（１） - an east windowにおいて、ラテン語【lucifer】について以下のように説明した。
ラテン語【lucifer （Lux ＝光、Ferre＝持つ、運ぶ）】は、その複合語としての語根からも理解できるように、新約聖書のギリシャ語【φωσφόρος phōsphoros（phos＝光、pherein＝持つ、運ぶ）】にそのまま対応するものである。
４世紀末ヒエロニムスによって翻訳・編集され、西方世界において広く普及し、１６世紀のトリエント公会議においてラテン語聖書の公式版に認定されたウルガータ訳のイザヤ１４：１２では、ヘブライ語【הילל hêylêl】の訳語として【lucifer】が使われている。これは旧約聖書のギリシャ語訳七十人訳（LXX）に準ずるものである。（以下、赤字は引用者によるもの）

ウルガタ訳が【lucifer】と訳しているのは上記の理由で理解できるが、問題は欽定訳（KJV）やジュネーブ訳などのいくつかの英語訳が「Lucifer」（頭文字が大文字になっていることに注目）と訳していることである。

この一見当たり前のような選択は、聖書翻訳において実は大きい意味をもつ。まず頭文字が大文字であるということは、ヘブライ語原語【הילל hêylêl】を固有名詞として解釈していることを意味する。しかしもし【הילל hêylêl】が【morning star】という意味の普通名詞ではなく固有名詞であるとするなら、本来、英語で【Heylel】もしくは【Helel】と書くべきものではないだろうか。しかしラテン語源の【lucifer】を固有名詞として挿入していることによって、ヘブライ語がもつ語義とは異なる意味、つまり「サタン＝Lucifer」という解釈が加えられ、語義が限定されていることを示している。
例えばもし日本語の訳が「黎明の子、ルシファーよ、あなたは天から落ちてしまった。もろもろの国を倒した者よ、あなたは切られて地に倒れてしまった。」であったらと仮定したら、その違いが理解しやすいのではないだろうか。
そしてこの翻訳上の選択は、欽定訳やジュネーブ訳が発行された１６世紀末や１７世紀初頭には、「サタン＝Lucifer」という解釈が一般化していたを意味する。しかし現代の聖書翻訳においては、このような解釈を加えたものは翻訳上の誤りだとみなされている。以下はLuciferと訳していない英語訳聖書の例である。

ちなみにイタリア語訳においては、カトリック教会公認訳CEIの１９７１年初版において【Lucifero】と訳されているが、手元にある２００８年の改訂版においては【astro del mattino】（明けの明星）と改善してある。

12. How art thou fallen from heaven! Isaiah proceeds with the discourse which he had formerly begun as personating the dead, and concludes that the tyrant differs in no respect from other men, though his object was to lead men to believe that he was some god. He employs an elegant metaphor, by comparing him to Lucifer, and calls him the Son of the Dawn; [220] and that on account of his splendor and brightness with which he shone above others. The exposition of this passage, which some have given, as if it referred to Satan, has arisen from ignorance; for the context plainly shows that these statements must be understood in reference to the king of the Babylonians. But when passages of Scripture are taken up at random, and no attention is paid to the context, we need not wonder that mistakes of this kind frequently arise. Yet it was an instance of very gross ignorance, to imagine that Lucifer was the king of devils, and that the Prophet gave him this name. But as these inventions have no probability whatever, let us pass by them as useless fables.
